City Club
T Projects led the commissioning process for a major public artwork for the entrance foyer of the recently refurbished RACV City Club in Melbourne's CBD. We developed the commission brief, including all technical specifications and drew up a comprehensive longlist of 45 potential artists in response to criteria supplied by RACV.
This commission is a key feature of the RACV's extensive art collection. Established in 2003, the RACV Art Collection features more than 1000 contemporary works, supporting Australian living artists.
Victoria Hempstead was selected for the commission. Victoria creates captivating multilayered artworks, focusing on place, process and the body's relation to the landscape. Drawing on site-specific research, Victoria’s works interpret the Australian landscape using metal, oxidisation processes and natural materials to create abstract renderings of place.
For the RACV Foyer Commission, Victoria has created REMINISCENCE. As part of her process, Victoria researched how waterways link us to journeys, memory and nostalgia. Responding to the Yarra River, she explored how our waterways weave and connect us - perhaps even collecting our words, our laughter and moment of life lived next to them.
